Academic Career and Research Areas
Prof. Bode (b. 1948) conducts research in the field of computer engineering. He focuses on the design, implementation and use of parallel and distributed computer architectures and numerical simulation. His research covers methods for efficiently providing high processing power for applications. These can be basic research applications or applications for the development of industrial products and services. As CIO of TUM, Prof. Bode has developed concepts for seamless IT infrastructures for universities.
After studying computer science at the Technical University of Karlsruhe, he received his doctorate in 1975. Following periods at the University of Giessen (1975-1976) and the University of Erlangen (1976-1987), he arrived at TUM in 1987, where he accepted the Chair of Computer Engineering and Computer Organization. From 1999 to 2008, he was vice-president and CIO of TUM. Since 2008, Prof. Bode has been chairman of the board of the Leibniz Data Center at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences. He is the editor-in-chief of “Informatik-Spektrum”, the journal from the German “Gesellschaft für Informatik”.
