Academic Career and Research Areas

The research interests of professor Cicalese (b. 1975) lie in the area of calculus of variations and its applications.

Professor Cicalese studied physics at the University of Naples where he obtained a PhD in applied mathematics in 2004. He subsequently held a research post at the International School for Advanced Studies in Trieste. In 2005 he assumed a tenured assistant professor position with research interests in the area of mathematical analysis at the University of Naples. He has been a professor at TUM since April 2012.
