Career

In 1976 Professor Bartenbach founded engineering office ‘Lighting Design Christian Bartenbach’. Its name has since been changed to ‘Bartenbach LichtLabor’. Professor Bartenbach’s many pioneering inventions have been patented in Europe and worldwide. These include highly efficient glare-free system technologies, daylight redirection systems and novel sun shading systems. His achievements and publications on lighting technology and lighting design have earned him professional recognition and led to numerous teaching assignments and visiting professorships at universities throughout Europe. In 1995 he was awarded the title of professor.  In June 2009 he received on honorary doctorate (Dr. h.c.) form the University of Innsbruck in recognition of his outstanding services and contributions to social and cultural fields.

  • Light + building/Architecture and Technology Innovation Award for outstanding achievements in the field of lighting technologies, Changi Airport, Terminal 3, Singapore (2006)
  • Architecture and Technology Innovation Award of Messe Frankfurt; 1st prize, administration building of ZVK, a German supplementary pension fund, in cooperation with architects Herzog + Partner (2006)
  • Nordic Lighting Prize – Metro Copenhagen (2003)
  • German Steel Construction Award; railway platform roof in Naumburg/Saale (1998)
