Career

After completing his studies in mathematics at Ludwig-Maximilians Universität in Munich in 1970, Josef Dorfmeister served as a research assistant at the University of Münster (1971-1980), where he received his doctorate in 1974 and acquired his postdoctoral teaching qualification (Habilitation) in 1978. After visiting professorships at the University of Virginia (2000-2001) and Rutgers University (2001-2002), Professor Dorfmeister served first as assistant professor from 1982 to 1985 and then as associate professor from 1985 at the University of Georgia. In 1988, he accepted a full professorship at the University of Kansas, where he taught until 2000. Josef Dorfmeister has been an honorary professor at TUM since 2001.
