Career

Professor Grottel studied business administration at the University of Passau from 1988 to 1994. The main focus of these studies was on auditing, corporate accounting, taxation and computer science. During this time he was a recipient of a German National Merit Foundation scholarship (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes). He also completed a year of study at the University of Kent in Canterbury, England. After graduating he started his career at KPMG Bayerische Treuhandgesellschaft AG in Munich. In parallel to his work at KPMG, he completed his doctorate at the University of Bayreuth and passed his professional exams to become a tax consultant and auditor.

Since 2006 Professor Grottel has been a member of the executive board of KPMG Bayerische Treuhandgesellschaft AG. His main activities are the audit of annual and consolidated financial statements and providing business advice to family businesses and their shareholders. His main interests are the internationalization of accounting and developments in the field of auditing. He also deals extensively with issues related to governance in family businesses.
