Career

Professor Mader (b. 1943) studied medicine in Erlangen und Essen where he also acquired his doctorate. He practiced medicine in Regensburg, Nittendorf, Bochum, Hanover and Munich. In 1970 he conducted research at the University of Hanover on teaching techniques in medical education. In 1971 he held an appointment at the Center for Programmed Instruction in Munich. Three years later Professor Mader joined a group medical practice in Nittendorf where he practiced medicine as a family physician until 2012. During the course of his career he has also been a medical journalist, edited various medical journals and published medical text books. In 1979 Professor Mader set up practica, a national congress for family physicians in Germany. The primary focus of his research was the theoretical principles of general practice medicine.

Awards

  • Recipient of the Georg Mauerer Medal awarded by Klinikum rechts der Isar, the university hospital of TUM (2009)
  • Recipient of the Hippocrates Medal awarded by DEGAM, the German Society for General Practitioners and Family Physicians (2007)
  • Recipient of the Ernst von Bergmann Medal awarded by BÄK, the German Medical Council (2006)
  • Honorary member of the Polish Society for General Practitioners (1999)
  • Honorary member of the Thuringian Society for General Practitioners (1991)
