Career

After graduating from high school in Munich and completing an internship in South America, Professor Rodenstock did military service from 1968 to 1969. He then studied electrical engineering and physics at TUM. After finishing his studies in physics in 1976 he joined Optische Werke G. Rodenstock (OWGR). In 1977 he left the company to study at INSEAD in Fontainebleau where he was awarded an MBA in 1978. Afterwards he became a personally liable partner of OWGR, initially together with his father, as of 1990 on his own. In 2003 he became chairman of the supervisory board of Rodenstock GmbH, of which he is still a member. During his career in industry Professor Rodenstock took on various leadership roles in trade associations and founded the Roman Herzog Institute (RHI) in Munich, of which he is still chairman. He has had a teaching assignment at TUM since the winter semester 2006/2007.
