Prof. Dr. Reinhard Mosandl
Academic Career and Research Areas
The research interests of Prof. Mosandl (b. 1952) are primarily focused on the management of forest ecosystems in the temperate latitudes and the tropics. His particular interest is restoration ecology, having undertaken projects in Ecuador, Panama, Egypt, Ethiopia, Nigeria and China. A key aim of his work is to bridge the gap between forestry science and forestry management.
After studying forest science at Munich’s Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU), Prof. Mosandl did his doctorate (1984) and lecturer qualification (1990) at that institution’s Chair of Silviculture. After three years as professor of forest management planning, he took over as Director of the Bavarian Forestry Office in Selb. In 1993, he was appointed to the Chair of Silviculture and Forest Protection at TU Dresden. Four years later, he returned to LMU. He has been full professor at TUM since 2000. Prof. Mosandl is a member of the Commission for Ecology of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities and Deputy Chairman of the Bavarian Forest Society.
