Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas F. Sattelmayer
Academic Career and Research Areas
Prof. Sattelmayer (b. 1955) explores the thermo-fluid dynamics of reactive systems in connection with power engineering/environmental technology issues and drive engineering. He also researches transport phenomena in single and multi-phase flows.
Prof. Sattelmayer studied at the University of Karlsruhe and did his doctorate there under Prof. S. Wittig (1985). He joined the BBC Corporate Research Center in Dättwil, Switzerland, in 1986. His positions there were project leader for gas turbine combustion (1988), group leader for combustion and heat transmission (1990) and head of the aero- and thermodynamics department (1992). Prof. Sattelmayer was appointed to the Chair of Thermodynamics in 1997 and has been its Director since 2000. Prof. Sattelmayer is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Gas Turbine Institute (IGTI) of ASME. He is also spokesman of the KW21 (power plants for the 21st century) research initiative for Bavaria. He has authored 285 scientific publications and holds approximately 20 patents.
