Academic Career and Research Areas
Professor Schilling (b. 1972) conducts research in the field of wound healing and failure to heal.
Following his studies in medicine and molecular biology at the Universities of Göttingen and Hamburg, he completed his PhD at the Universitätsklinikum Hamburg Eppendorf in the Department for Trauma, Hand and Reconstructive Surgery. Following work as one of Germany’s first full-time medical researchers in trauma surgery, he took on a junior professorship in 2007 at TUHH to learn more about the art of engineering for biomedical research. Since November 2010 he has led the research department at the Clinic for Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery at Krankenhaus rechts der Isar. He is fascinated by the disease-related basic science of tissue regeneration and repair.
