Prof. Dr. Benjamin Schusser

Academic Career and Research Areas

Benjamin Schusser (b. 1980) conducts research on the immune system of chickens. His work is concerned with creating genetically engineered chickens to study the immune system of chickens. This research focuses on the development of the adaptive immune system and on the function of the immune system within the context of infectious diseases.

Schusser studied veterinary medicine at LMU Munich. He subsequently earned his doctoral degree at the Institute of Animal Physiology of LMU Munich. With the support of the German Research Foundation (DFG), Schusser spent several years at UC Davis, USA, and with Crystal Bioscience, a California-based company. After returning to Germany, Schusser set up a junior research group at the Institute of Animal Physiology of LMU Munich supported by the Emmy Noether Program of the German Research Foundation (DFG). In 2015 he accepted an appointment at TUM.
