Academic Career and Research Areas

Andreas Weiler (b. 1975) works in the field of theoretical particle physics. His focus is on physics beyond the Standard Model, which tries to unravel the nature of dark matter or the dynamics of electro-weak symmetry breaking. The aim of his work is to develop plausible theories that address the problems of the Standard Model and to derive their experimental signatures which can, for instance, be tested at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Geneva.
Weiler studied physics at Stuttgart University, Oregon State University and TUM, where he received his PhD 2007. After working as a post-doctoral researcher at Cornell University (NY) and as a fellow at the European Center for Particle Physics (CERN) in Geneva, in 2011 he became a permanent researcher at the German Electron Synchrotron (DESY) in Hamburg. In 2013 he returned to CERN as a staff member in the theory group. He joined the physics department at TUM in 2015.
