Academic Career and Research Areas

The research activities of Prof. Witzmann revolve around energy transmission and distribution at all network levels. He is particularly interested in the integration of renewable energies at various network levels and the future impact this will have on power grids. He also explores aspects of system stability and system modeling.

Prof. Witzmann (b. 1956) studied at TUM and did his doctorate in high-voltage engineering in 1989 after a year of work experience. He went to work in the industry after a period of postdoctoral research in the USA. He worked at Siemens AG in power system planning in the Power Transmission and Distribution division and later in the research & development of high-temperature superconductivity. His last position in the industry was Head of Technology and Innovation in the Medium Voltage division. In 2004, Prof. Witzmann accepted his current position at TUM.
