Wissenschaftliche Laufbahn und Forschungsgebiete

Prof. Volks (* 1968) Forschungsgebiet sind die Bereiche der Umformtechnik und des Gießereiwesens. Im Bereich der Umformtechnik steht die sogenannte zweite Verarbeitungsstufe von Halbzeugen zu fertigen Bauteilen insbesondere für die Blechumformung im Vordergrund. Weiterhin ist die Weiterentwicklung von Simulationsmethoden ein Schwerpunkt. Im Bereich des Gießereiwesens steht das Stranggießen von Leichtmetallen und Kupferlegierungen sowie Möglichkeiten zur Erstellung und Verarbeitung von Verbundguss im Fokus der Forschung.

Prof. Volk studierte an der TH Darmstadt zuerst Physik und dann Mechanik mit dem Abschluss zum Dipl.-Ing. im Jahre 1994. Danach folgte die Promotion in der Arbeitsgruppe von Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Ehlers an der Universität Stuttgart, Institut für Mechanik, mit dem Abschluss zum Dr.-Ing. im Jahre 1999.  Prof. Volk arbeitete im Anschluss bei der BMW AG in München in verschiedenen Funktionen der Technologie Umformen mit Schwerpunkt Umformsimulation, Produkt- und Prozessplanung sowie Konzeptentwicklung. Seit 1.4.2011 ist Prof. Volk Ordinarius des utg.
