Prof. Dr. Hans Gollwitzer
Academic Career and Research Areas
Prof. Dr. Hans Gollwitzer conducts research primarily in orthopedics and trauma surgery, with a focus on joint replacement (particularly of the hip and knee), revision and joint-preserving surgery, periprosthetic infections, and non-invasive regenerative therapies such as extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT). He also investigates the biological and mechanical aspects of bone–implant interactions and novel therapeutic approaches for tissue regeneration.
Prof. Gollwitzer studied human medicine at the Technical University of Munich and completed a sub-internship at Cornell University in New York. After passing the German medical state examination in 2000, he earned his doctoral degree at TUM in 2002. This was followed by a research fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery, Cornell University, New York. He completed his habilitation in 2008 and has been an adjunct (associate) professor at the Technical University of Munich since 2015.
