Career

Professor Bauer studied mechanical engineering at TUM from 1979 to 1985. He began his career in industry at BMW AG in Munich where he held various positions in the field of planning. Within six years he was heading the Production Strategy department and the department responsible for production technology at the pre-development stage of new product developments. He subsequently assumed the leadership of Interior Production. In 2001 Professor Bauer moved to BMW's new plant in Leipzig where he headed the Logistics and IT departments. Once the new plant was successfully in operation he became leader of the axle and drive component manufacturing plant until 2006 when he took on the position of head of production engineering for all engines and chassis. After a brief period in organizational development, in 2012 he set up and assumed the leadership of the BMW Motorcycles product line.
