Career

Professor Frankenberger studied geodesy at the Universities of Munich and Graz between 1965 and 1970. He was a recipient of a German National Merit Foundation scholarship (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes). After a post-graduate internship he passed the Bavarian state examination leading to top land surveying positions in the Bavarian civil service (1972). In the same year he received his doctorate. His thesis was entitled: “The Austrian Surveying Law dated July 3, 1968 – a critical comparison with the applicable surveying standards in the Federal Republic of Germany.”

Professor Frankenberger has been a member of the Bavarian Land Survey Administration since 1972. During the course of his career he also participated in the 6th public service management course of the Bavarian State Chancellery which took place between 1979 and 1980 and headed the “Bavarian Land Survey Administration; Information and Communication Technology” department within the Bavarian Ministry of Finance from 1998 to 2008.

    Functions

    • Co-editor of the annual publication “German Surveying and Geo-Information Science” (Das deutsche Vermessungs- und Geoinformationswesen) (since 2010)
    • Member of the German Geodetic Commission (1998-2008)
    • Representative for Bavaria in the Working Group of the Land Survey Administrations of the States of the Federal Republic of Germany (1998-2008)
    • Teaching assignment at TUM in the field of public geo-information systems and real estate cadastre (1989-2002)
    • Member of the German-Austrian Boundary Commission (1981-1989)

    Awards

    • Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (2010)
    • Soldner Medal for outstanding services to surveying in Bavaria (2008)
    • Award of Merit of DVW Bayern e.V. – Society of Geodesy, Geo-Information and Land Management (2008)
