Prof. Hünermund’s research lies in empirical economics and data science, with a focus on causal inference, artificial intelligence, and innovation. He studies how firms and policymakers can leverage new technologies to promote innovation, economic growth, and evidence-based decision-making.
Paul Hünermund studied economics at the University of Mannheim and earned his PhD from KU Leuven. During his doctoral studies, he was also affiliated with the Leibniz-Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim. He then served as Assistant Professor at Maastricht University and later as Associate Professor at Copenhagen Business School. Since 2026, he is Professor at the Technical University of Munich.
