Academic Career and Research Areas

Dr. Julia Harz studied within the elite study program FOKUS Physics at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg and received her Ms. Sc. hon. degree in 2010. She continued her graduate studies at the Deutsches Elektronen Synchrotron (DESY) / University of Hamburg, where she obtained her PhD in 2013. She gained international research experience as postdoc at the University College in London (2013-2015) and as fellow of the Institute Lagrange de Paris at the Laboratoire de Physique Théorique et Hautes Énergies (LPTHE) in Paris (2015-2018). Since 2018, she leads her own DFG Emmy Noether Junior Research group at the Technical University of Munich.

The research of Dr. Julia Harz (b. 1985) is driven by the fundamental questions of theoretical astroparticle  physics. It aims to make progress in the quest of uncovering the origin of the baryon asymmetry of our Universe, the nature of dark matter and the mechanism that generates neutrino masses. Her group devises new methods to test different models with complementary experiments, improves the precision of theoretical calculations and develops new approaches that explain the aforementioned three phenomena.
