LipiTUM – A Computational Platform for Lipidomics and Lipotyping in Systems Medicine

Academic Career and Research Areas

Dr. Pauling studied Informatics in the Natural Sciences in Bielefeld, Germany. In collaboration with the ISAS, Dortmund he finished his Diplom thesis (M.Sc equivalent) in mass spectrometry-based metabolomics. He worked as a research assistant at the Max-Planck-Institute for Informatics, Saarbrücken, Germany in the area of network biology before moving to Odense, Denmark to receive his PhD Degree in Natural Sciences, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Biological Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics at the University of Southern Denmark. As a postdoc, Dr. Pauling then joined the lab of Edda Klipp at the Humboldt-University of Berlin as a member of the German Research Network on Liver Systems Medicine (LiSyM).

Dr. Pauling conducts research on cpmputational lipidomics. His group develops the platform LipiTUM which focuses on mass spectrometry-based lipidomics and metabolomics and develops advanced medical and systems biology data mining applications. The goal is to bring lipidomics on the play board of systems biomedicine to integrate it into biomarker as well as drug target identification processes and to utilize lipidomics to advance the field of precision medicine.
