Prof. M.A. Jeannette Kuo
Academic Career and Research Areas
Prof. Jeannette Kuo (*1978) leads research on integrated design in Architecture and Construction. Bringing structures, material, and climate engineering into the process, the work investigates new approaches to sustainable architecture through interdisciplinary projects. Current investigations include research on low-tech performative facades; climate-responsive design in large scale construction; and designing for disassembly and re-use. In addition, Kuo runs the Material Exchange, a cross-disciplinary platform on material topics.
Prof. Kuo studied architecture at the University of California at Berkeley, Harvard University Graduate School of Design, and the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich. In 2006 she was awarded the competitive Maybeck Teaching Fellowship at UC Berkeley. She went on to teach at MIT, EPF Lausanne as a Visiting Professor, and Harvard GSD where she was an Assistant Professor in Practice. Since 2022 Prof. Kuo is at TUM where she was appointed Professor of Architecture and Construction in the School of Engineering and Design.
