Academic Career and Research Areas

Dr. Alexander Wentland holds a Magister degree in Political Science from TU Dresden and a Master’s degree in Sociology from the New School for Social Research. He finished his doctoral thesis at TU Berlin and Harvard University in 2018. At TUM, he led the DFG-funded project "Understanding Regional Innovation Cultures". Currently, he is the head of the research field “Governance & Responsibility” in the Munich Cluster for the Future of Mobility in Metropolitain Regions (MCube) and PI in three BMBF-funded MCube projects.

Dr. Alexander Wentland conducts research at the intersection of Science & Technology Studies (STS), Sociology, and Mobilities Studies. In his group, he investigates how mobility innovation touches upon basic questions of social life and social order. He is interested in how technological trends shape the way we live, work, and plan our cities – and vice versa. In particular, he analyzes how the epistemic foundations (models, metrics, experiments) underpin and govern our current system of (auto)mobility.
