Wissenschaftliche Laufbahn und Forschungsgebiete
Orestis Papakyriakopoulos' Forschung generiert Ideen, Rahmen und praktische Lösungen für gerechte und partizipative sozio-algorithmische Ökosysteme. Er entwickelt Werkzeuge und betreibt Grundlagenforschung zu Plattformen und künstlicher Intelligenz. Orestis analysiert neue und alte Medien anhand der Anwendung datenintensiver Algorithmen, sowie die politischen und sozialen Auswirkungen der Verwendung datenintensiver Algorithmen selbst.
Orestis studierte Bauingenieurwesen (Dipl. Ing.) an der Nationalen Technischen Universität Athen und Wissenschafts- und Technologiephilosophie (M.A.) an der TU München, wo er auch in Informatik promovierte. Er war Gastwissenschaftler am MIT Media Lab und hat an der Princeton University für sein PostDoc geforscht. Außerdem arbeitete er als AI Research Scientist bei Sony. Seit 2024 ist Orestis Professor für Societal Computing an der School of Social Science and Technology der Technischen Universität München.
