Wissenschaftliche Laufbahn und Forschungsgebiete

Sebastian Pfotenhauer ist Co-Direktor des Munich Center for Technology in Society (MCTS), und Carl von Linde Professor für Innovationsforschung. Als Experte in den Feldern Science and Technology Studies und Innovationspolitik leitet er die am MCTS und der School of Management verordnete Forschungsgruppe Innovation, Society and Public Policy. Gemeinsam mit TUM Kolleg*innen führt er das Munich Cluster fort he Future of Mobility in Metropolitan Regions (M Cube), welches vom Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung im Rahmen des Zukunftscluster Wettbewerbes als 45MEUR Initiative ausgezeichnet wurde. Er ist zudem Koordinator des EU-Horizon2020 Projekts SCALINGS – einer 4MEUR Initiative zur Untersuchung von Co-creation in Robotik, Autonomem Fahren und Energiesystemen – sowie Projektleiter verschiedener DFG-Projekte (z.B. Regionale Innovationskulturen, Technowissenschaftlicher Konstitutionalismus, und METAFORIS).

Professor Pfotenhauers Forschung beschäftigt sich u.a. mit Innovationspolitik, regionalen Innovationsstrategien und -kulturen, der Zirkulation von Innovationsmodellen, verantwortungsvoller Innovation, und Wissenschaft und Innovation in internationalen Kontexten. Vor seinem Ruf an die TUM war Professor Pfotenhauer Research Scientist und Lecturer am MIT Technology and Policy Program sowie Fellow am Harvard STS Program. Er arbeitet als Consultant für verschiedene Regierungen und internationale Organisationen (z.B. die OECD). Seiner Arbeit erschien u.a. in Research Policy, Social Studies of Science, dem OECD STI Outlook, Nature, und Issues in Science and Technology. Sebastian hat einen Master in Technology Policy vom MIT und einen Doktor in Physik von der Universität Jena, und erhielt extensives Training als Post-Doc am MIT und in Harvard.
