Prof. Dr. Uwe Baumgarten
Academic Career and Research Areas
The research of Professor Baumgarten (b. 1955) deals with distributed mobile systems. The main emphasis is on operating systems, in particular embedded, mobile and web-based operating systems. Wireless communication between computer systems of all types and the quality of the services based on these systems also play a key role.
After studying informatics and receiving a doctorate from the University of Bonn, Professor Baumgarten acquired his postdoctoral teaching qualification (habilitation) in informatics at the University of Oldenburg. He has been professor of informatics at TUM since 1995. From the start of his career he has taken a keen interest in teaching and learning conditions. This laid the foundation for his appointment as the first dean for informatics and his ongoing commitment to the introduction and implementation of the Bologna Agreement. Professor Baumgarten assumed the role of data protection officer at TUM in the summer semester of 2010. He has also been on the supervisory board of Miray Software for a number of years.
