Prof. Dr. Gerd Fischer

Honorary Professor at TUM since 2006

Geometry and Algebra

Professor Fischer studied mathematics in Erlangen, Munich and Baltimore. He received his doctorate in 1964 from the University of Erlangen under the supervision of Professor Reinhold Remmert for his work on “Regular and quasiregular holomorphic mappings of complex manifolds”. He acquired his postdoctoral teaching qualification (habilitation) at LMU Munich. Professor Fischer has held professorships in Munich, Regensburg and Düsseldorf and visiting professorships in San Diego, La Plata, Minnesota, Nizza, Davis, Berkeley and at IHES in Bures-sur-Yvette. His main fields of interest are complex analysis and algebraic geometry. He is the author of several standard text books on mathematics.
