Academic Career and Research Areas

Prof. Pond conducts research in the areas of international and comparative political economy. Her research analyzes how global markets shape domestic politics and policy. She is interested in why politicians open markets, how politics affects the quality of regulation and property rights provision, and how ownership structure can be manipulated for political influence. More broadly, her research interests include representation, the politics of finance and trade, domestic regulation, formal modeling, and political economy.

Prof. Pond studied at the University of Michigan (Ph.D. 2015, M.A. 2012), University of Chicago (M.A. 2009), and the University of California, San Diego (B.A. 2006). She was an Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University from 2015 to 2020. Prof. Pond has been at TUM since 2020. In 2020, she was appointed Professor of the Politics of Finance at TUM.
