Prof. Dr. Klaus Sedlbauer

Academic Career and Research Areas

The research of Professor Sedlbauer (b. 1965) focuses on topics relating to Hygrothermics and Life Cycle Assessments.

Professor Sedlbauer studied physics at LMU Munich. As of 1992 he was a member of the scientific staff at the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics IBP in Stuttgart and Holzkirchen. After receiving his doctorate in 2001 he was deputy director of the Fraunhofer IBP and was appointed as its director in 2003. Between 2003 and 2014 Professor Sedlbauer held the chair of the Building Physics Department at the University of Stuttgart. Since April 2014 he has held the chair of the Building Physics Department at TUM. Professor Sedlbauer has been a permanent member of the Indoor Air Hygiene Commission (IRK) of the German Federal Environment Agency (UBA) since 2003 and a co-founder of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). In 2008 he was appointed spokesman of the Fraunhofer Building Innovation Alliance and of the Research Alliance Cultural Heritage. Furthermore, since 2013 he has been a member of BBAW, the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and since 2014 a member of the Sustainable Building Council of the German Federal Environment Agency (UBA).
