Academic Career and Research Areas

Gerhard Fink (*1982) performs research within the area of timber engineering, with a focus on probabilistic modelling of engineered wood products as well as the development of innovative and sustainable solutions for civil engineering applications.

Gerhard Fink studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Graz in Austria. From 2009 to 2014 he worked at ETH Zurich where he performed his PhD study and worked as a Postdoc. Afterwards he worked as a scientific employee and project leader, at the Structural Engineering Research Laboratory at Empa. From 2016 to 2025 he performed his research as a tenure-track Professor at Aalto University in Finland. In 2025 he was appointed as a full Professor for Timber Engineering and Construction at TUM.
