Professor Fischer (*1948) represented in changing positions (lecturer, private lecturer, professor) from 1980-1988 and 2004-2016 the History of Mathematics and Informatics at Technical University of Munich, from 1988-2004 at TU Berlin. The main field of research since 1985 has been the history of analog and digital computing tools and machines. Particular attention is paid to the history of "mechanical integration", i.e. the theoretically exact determination of definite and indefinite integrals by purely mechanical means.

Prof. Fischer studied mathematics and computer science/informatics 1968-1973 at Technical University of Munich; Ph.D. 1977 on "One-Armed Bandits". 1986 Habilitation in the history of mathematics and computer science; 1985-1988 Conservator for Mathematics (among other responsibilities) at the Deutsches Museum, Munich. 1988-2014 "excursions" into cultural-promoting activities (department head in the Cultural Foundation of the Länder, Berlin; afterwards managing director of the Ernst von Siemens Art Foundation in Munich).
