Prof. Dr. Claudius Hammann
Academic Career and Research Areas
Prof. Hammann's (*1987) research areas are fire science and engineering. His work focuses on analyzing and further developing performance-based fire protection, fire risk engineering, and the associated human-machine interfaces. These topics are considered in the context of social resource utilisation in preventive and defensive fire protection - particularly in their connection with building components and building materials, energy storage forms, and aerospace industry applications.
In addition to his work as a professional firefighter, Prof. Hammann studied medical sciences and fire engineering. He completed his doctorate at TUM with distinction in risk analysis of complex systems. Following a data science program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, USA), he has habilitated in building physics. He has 15 years of experience in preventive and defensive fire protection as well as special construction measures. He was appointed Professor of Fire Science and Engineering at TUM in April 2025.
