Academic Career and Research Areas

Prof. Hauer's (*1978) field of research is ultrafast spectroscopy. On a fundamental level, chemical reactions are described by rearrangements of bonds. The timescale of molecular vibrations in the realm of femtoseconds (10^-15 seconds) is therefore a natural timescale for such processes. In Prof. Hauer's group, phenomena such as energy transfer or photochemical reactions are investigated by femtosecond spectroscopy. Main topics are application to chemical questions and method development.

Prof. Hauer studied chemistry at the University of Vienna and at King's College London. After a PhD in physical chemistry at the Philipps Universität Marburg and projects at LMU Munich and at the University of Vienna, he was appointed to an assistant professorship at the Photonics Institute of TU Wien. Since 2017, Prof. Hauer is at TUM.
