From 1987 to 1992 Professor Lammel studied mechanical engineering at TUM, majoring in aerospace technology. He subsequently worked as a software engineer developing an adhesive selection system called GlueDo from 1993 to 1994. After this he worked as an independent consultant in the field of joining technologies in cooperation with IFF GmbH, a spin-off of the Institute of Joining Technologies at TUM. In 1997 he obtained a doctoral degree in joining technology from TUM and became a managing director of IFF GmbH. He has been a visiting lecturer in adhesive technology at TUM since 1998. Since 1999 he has been on the examining board for state school teachers of metal engineering where he is responsible for the subject of joining technology. In cooperation with the Welder Training and Testing Institute in Munich (SLV) he has taught adhesive bonding on a welding engineer apprenticeship program since 2000.
