Prof. Dr. Marcelo Lobo Heldwein

Academic Career and Research Areas

Our research focus lies on power converters and includes their topology, modelling, design and control. These aspects are of paramount importance for the development of sustainable and intelligent solutions to the challenges posed by the energy transition. This requires new models and concepts to overcome the barriers to the performance of power converters and their components. The research involves an in-depth systemic and multidisciplinary knowledge of power converters and as well as their components and applications.

Prof. Heldwein received the MSc degree in electrical engineering from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Brazil, in 1999, and his doctoral degree from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich), Switzerland, in 2007. He was appointed to the professorship for High-Power Converter Systems at TUM in 2022. From 1999 to 2003, he worked with industry, in Brazil and Sweden. He was a Professor at UFSC from 2010 to 2022.
