Academic Career and Research Areas

The Chair of Prof. Schelten (b. 1948) conducts research into vocational education. The main areas he focuses on are vocational education research, teaching research and the theory of vocational education.

After studying for his vocational teaching qualification in the subjects electrical engineering, mathematics and educational science at RWTH Aachen, Prof. Schelten did his doctorate in educational science at the University of Giessen in 1976. After that, he passed the second state examination (Staatsexamen) for vocational school teaching. In 1982, he completed his lecturer qualification at the University of Giessen in educational science/vocational education. Prior to his appointment as a full professor at TUM, he was professor of vocational education at the University of Hamburg until 1987. Until April 2013, Prof. Schelten was editor of the journal Die berufsbildende Schule from the Federal Association of Teachers at Vocational Schools (BLBS); since then, he has been an honorary member of this Federal Association.
