Apl. Prof. Dr. Konrad Koch

Academic Career and Research Areas

The sustainable use of organic waste streams, such as wastewater and biowaste, with the aim of recovering resources and energy is a major interest for Konrad. His research includes innovative processes for wastewater treatment, the optimization of anaerobic digestion processes, and sector coupling ("power-to-gas"). He is involved in basic research as well as applied research, ranging from laboratory to pilot scale to transfer to practical application.

From 2002 to 2007, Konrad studied "Waste Management and Contaminated Sites Treatment" at the TU Dresden, which he completed with his thesis at the TU Hamburg-Harburg. In 2010, he received his doctorate in engineering from TUM. He then headed a working group at the Bavarian State Research Center for Agriculture for 2 years before returning to TUM in 2012 and completing his habilitation in "Urban Water and Waste Management" in 2018. In 2023, he was finally appointed Apl.-Prof. by TUM.
