Prof. Dr. Torben Gädt

Professorship

Construction Chemicals

Academic Career and Research Areas

Prof. Gädt’s (*1978) research is focused on the chemistry of construction materials with the objective to leverage chemical concepts for the improvement of material properties and sustainability. The materials addressed are mainly concrete, gypsum and technical mortars. Besides the synthesis of functional polymers, molecules and nanophases as (concrete) additives, Prof. Gädt is interested in method development for the characterization of the chemical binder reactions.

Prof. Gädt studied chemistry at the Univeristy of Tübingen and obtained his Ph.D. in 2006. Afterwards, he spent two years as a Postdoc at the University of Bristol working on inorganic polymers in the Manners group. His industrial career started in 2008 when he joined BASF as a research lab leader in the field of construction chemicals. In 2013, he was promoted as head of development and in 2019 was appointed as Senior Principal Scientist at BASF. Since 2020, Prof. Gädt holds the chair of construction chemistry at TUM.
