Academic Career and Research Areas

Dr. Marion Jasnin (b. 1980) uses in situ cryo-electron tomography, including correlative cryo-focused ion beam milling sample preparation and image processing to reveal actin filament architectures inside native cells at molecular resolution. The aim of her research is to understand the structural principles governing actin functions across scales, and to provide an integrated view of the mechanisms of force generation by actin networks in cells.

After studying physics and completing her PhD in biophysics at Joseph Fourier University in Grenoble in 2007, Dr. Marion Jasnin joined the Institut Laue-Langevin as a postdoctoral fellow until fall 2009. She then moved to Munich to conduct research under Prof. Wolfgang Baumeister at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry, where she established her own subgroup in 2017. In October 2022, she joined the Helmholtz Pioneer Campus as a Principal Investigator.
