Academic Career and Research Areas

Dr. Halter studied chemistry at the FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, where he obtained his PhD in 2017 with Prof. Karsten Meyer, developing molecular f-element electrocatalysts for H2 production. After a short postdoctoral stint with Prof. F. Geoffrey N. Cloke (University of Sussex, UK), Dr. Halter joined the lab of Prof. Jeffrey R. Long (UC Berkeley, USA) in 2018 as a Feodor Lynen Postdoctoral Fellow (Alexander von Humboldt Foundation), to study metal-organic framework materials (MOFs) for H2 storage and heterogeneous catalysis. In 2021 Dr. Halter started his independent research group focused on H2-free direct electrocatalytic hydrogenation of organic substrates at the TU Munich as a Liebig Fellow (FCI).

Dr. Dominik Halter (b. 1988) is an inorganic chemist with interest in the design of molecular organometallic and material-based electrocatalysts for electro-organic synthesis and energy storage. His research targets the development and in depth understanding of new strategies for electrocatalytic hydrogenation of organic compounds and biological feedstocks, to produce liquid chemical energy carriers and value-added products.
